Kawai Nui Marsh The water of Kawai Nui Stream and Marsh was once the water that saturated Hamakua Marsh. The water was less salty than the present water in Hamakua Canal. Since this water once flowed, it would be easy to take a pipe to this source land transport this water to Hamakua Marsh. With man made grading and roads, gravity may not be enough to pull water to Hamakua Marsh. Therefore, a pump may need to be installed at Kawai Nui Marsh.

One way of getting water into Hamakua Marsh would be by using pipes. Starting at Kawai Nui Marsh, pipes would be installed along the road, until the water needed to be brought across the road. The pipes would then be placed under the bridge and into the first basin, or land area, of Hamakua Marsh. Since there is a levee between basin one and basin two, basin one would need its own pipeline. The pipe, at this point would be split in two directions, with one section going to the second basin. The water would flow from basin two to basin three.
