Polychaete worms are an extremely diverse group of worms. Around 10,000 species have been described. Most are marine, but they can live in the sand or on land. The species include sandworms, tubeworms and clamworms. We have been unable so far to discover which species live in wetlands.

Polychaete worms can live in brackish water, but most species live in saltwater. Habitat varies from sewers to just about anywhere. Polychaete worms hunt other worms and insect colonies. It is believed that the Hawaiian Stilt eats the Polychaete, but more research is needed.
