Hawaiian Stilt

Ae'o, Hawaiian Stilt, means "one standing tall" in Hawaiian. Standing 16" tall, the Ae'o is the largest of the Hawaiian shorebirds. The Ae'o has shiny black wing feathers and a white breast. Their bright pink legs help them wade through the shallow wetlands. The Ae'os bill is long, slender, slightly curved, and black. The male's back feathers are black, the female's are brown.
Ae'o are endemic. They are found on all the main Hawaiian Islands, however, they are rarely found on Lana'i. The Ae'o is a nonmigratory endangered bird. During the 1940s they were a popular game bird for hunters.

It may look like the bird's eye is white, but that's just a patch around it's magnificant red eye. Since it has very skinny pink legs, it looks like this amazing bird is walking on stilts.
