'Alae
Ke'oke'o are often found in fresh and brackish
water in marshes and ponds. They like to spend
their time in open water with plant growth
around.

Loafing,
or resting areas, include logs, dikes, mudbars,
false nests, and man made islands. They can also
loaf in reservoirs or open areas of
water.
The
'Alae Ke'oke'o are seen on all the Hawaiiian
Islands. The greatest numbers are on Maui, Oahu,
and Kaua'i. They are usually seen on elevations
of 1,320 feet and below. 'Alae Ke'oke'o prefer
freshwater wetlands and taro lo'i or patches,
but will visit freshwater resevoirs and brackish
wetland.
